Derby Girls climb over ROCK to win final home bout

The Circle City Derby Girls’ Socialites built a commanding lead after a low-scoring start to win over the Rollergirls of Central Kenucky (Lexington, Ky.). After trading lead jammer status and handfuls of points in the first several jams, CCDG etched out a lead they then steadily widened, dominating ROCK for a 114-46 victory to close their home season.
After the night’s first double whistle, Circle City’’s Vivi Section beat Kentucky’s Sugar Shock off the line. But despite a big hit from the Socialites’ Beattie Sedgwick, Sugar got lead and banked 3 points for her team while Vivi struggled in the pack. In the second jam, Socialites’ jammer Roll-R Damage responded with two grand slams. As she lapped the track, Roller-R delivered a love tap to ROCK jammer Bitty Bastr’d, who was trapped behind a wall of green — Ionic Bondage, Spleana Rupture, Trouble Helix and Beattie Sedgwick.
The first half was dominated by scoreless and “hit-it-and-quit-it” jams in which the lead jammer would win 2 or 4 points and call it off to prevent the opposition from scoring. Halfway through the period, Socialites jammer Liberty Spykes stepped up to the line for a full two-minute jam that earned 6 points and a 16-11 lead for her team. Soon after, Roll-R Damage got lead jammer and added 14 points.
As the bout progressed, Circle City blocker Nova Blaze excelled at steering ROCK jammers out of bounds while teammates Beattie Sedgwick and Ionic Bondage drilled holes in the pack for the green jammers. Lady Miss Bier used the art of the “double tap” to keep Lexington’s jammers at bay.
With 11 minutes left in the half, the Socialites began to lock down their lead with a score of 39-13. In the half’s last scoring jam, with each team down two blockers due to penalties, green jammer Liberty Spykes grabbed 12 points while opposing jammer Rascal got tied up by the smooth laterals of Nova Blaze and Ionic Bondage. The halftime score was 54-20, Socialites.
The second half started with a bang when Spleana Rupture toppled two ROCK blockers simultaneously with a powerful hipcheck. Pink jammer Ragdoll Ruby barely beat Liberty Spykes out of the pack and called it off before either could score. The next jam was also a tie — ROCK’s Sugar Shock got lead but Roll-R matched her 3 points. In the third jam of the half, Socialites’ blocker Faye Stunaway battered ROCK jammer Ragdoll Ruby at the back of the pack until a major penalty sent Ruby to the box. Vivi Section took advantage of the power jam to add 7 more points to the Socialites’ growing lead.
In a subsequent jam, CCDG blockers Beattie Sedgwick, Lady Miss Bier and Ionic Bondage formed a wall that stopped ROCK jammer Rascal until a whip from her teammate, Ellie Slay, catapulted her through the pack. Lead jammer Valentine Massacre—who meanwhile was fighting for a fourth point—took a big hit sent her careening into the suicide seats, where she called the jam while trying not to spill fans’ beverages. The Socialites proceeded to get lead jammer status during the next five jams and steadily boost their score.
ROCK’s defenders kept regrouping, however. Blocker Ryder Die managed to hold CCDG jammer Roll-R Damage behind her for an entire lap, until Roll-R broke free and scored 9 points. Vivi Section, Liberty Spykes and Valentine Massacre took turns scoring 4 points for Circle City and calling it off. Vivi interrrupted the pattern when she got sent to the box on a back block after grabbing an easy lead, allowing Sugar Shock to score 3 points during the power jam situation. However, Kimmie S’More, Ionic Bondage and Salacious T kept Sugar tied up until Vivi slipped out of the box to score 4 points before the jam ended. With 13:30 left in the second half, the Socalites still dominated, 94-26.
As the bout neared its close, ROCK injected their jammer pool with some fresh blood. Ellie Slay took a turn on the line for Lexington and, despite some big hits, earned 9 points for her team. Robin Souls also wore the pink panty, along with Ryder Die. In the night’s final jam, Spleana Rupture stepped up to the jammer line for Circle City, but committed a track cut that delivered a power jam opportunity to Rascal, who eked out 2 last points for ROCK. The final score was 114-46, Circle City.
The Socialites will travel to Sioux City, Iowa, for the Rolling Along the River Tournament on October 15-16.
Party Crashers defeat Cornfed Derby Dames at season closer
By Pamplona Pain

In a nail-biting bout that was up for grabs until the last jam, the Circle City Derby Girls’ Party Crashers won their final bout of the home season against the Cornfed Derby Dames of Muncie, Ind., 109-100.
Both leagues had been anticipating the August 13 rematch at the Forum at Fishers after an unofficial scrimmage had pitted the two against each other earlier this year. Points were earned at an even pace for the first 10 jams as each team’s jammers earned lead status five times each.
But in the 11th jam of the bout, CCDG jammer Jackie Bauer scored 15 points in a single jam. Her blockers executed skillful defense against the Dames’ OCDiva, including a powerful hit by Guiyatine Gretyl. Following that jam, the Party Crashers had a solid lead at 51-27.
As the period progressed, CCDG’s skaters retained their lead, but not without a fight. For five of the next eight jams in the first half, Dames jammers OCDiva, Bruisey Ricardo, and Sonic the Trackhog each had lead jammer status at least once.
CCDG exercised effective defensive strategies, including some impressive wall busting by CCDG pivot Bunnie Low-Browski, along with hard hits and solid walls by her fellow blockers. In the final jam of the first half, CCDG’s Wrecker Becker earned lead jammer, scored 3 points before the halftime buzzer, and brought the score to 69-48, Party Crashers.
Former Indianapolis Junior Roller Derby player Cassie Khaos launched the Party Crashers into the second half when she grabbed 4 points, bringing the score to 73-48 in favor of green. But it was another 15-point run from CCDG’s Jackie Bauer in the second jam that further solidified the Party Crashers’ lead. OCDiva, who’d been awarded lead, watched Jackie score points from the penalty box after only scoring a few herself, bringing the score to 88-51, Party Crashers.
The Dames answered Jackie’s 15 points in the next two jams with 10 points from OCDiva and 5 points from Jane Damage respectively, bringing the score within spitting distance for the Dames at 88-66.
But a few jams later, though neither jammer had lead status, CCDG’s Wrecker Becker scored 15 points while Cornfed’s Jane Damage struggled against impermeable walls. Wrecker’s efforts brought the score to 103-66, Party Crashers.
For the rest of the bout, however, the indefatiguable Dames clawed their way back. Muncie’s jammers earned lead status 10 times in a row, capturing 29 points as they held Circle City to a single point. Their heroic efforts to surmount CCDG’s lead brought the score to a harrowing 104-100, and the audience rose to their feet to see how the final jam would unfold. In a remarkable last jam, CCDG’s Wrecker Becker took lead jammer status, scored 5 points, and called off the jam with no time left on the clock and a final score of 109-100 for the Derby Girls.
The Party Crashers now enter their off-season.

Socialites make impressive recovery in close bout against Black-N-Bluegrass Rollergirls
By Jackie Bauer, No. 24
It may have been hot outside, but it was even hotter inside at Midwest Sports in Florence, Kentucky, where the Socialites of the Circle City Derby Girls had traveled to take on the Blackouts of Black-N-Bluegrass Rollergirls on the Blackouts’ home track. The Socialites suffered penalty troubles in the first half and despite an amazing second half resurgence and the expulsion of Blackout jammer, Scary Garcia, the Socialites fell short of victory with a final score of 153-129.
The bout opened with a quick 5 points earned by Blackout Beka Rekanize. In the second jam, Liberty Spykes snagged the lead for the Socialites with two grand slams while jammer Petal to the Metal from the Blackouts was sent to the box. The tables were turned immediately when Petal to the Metal returned for some grand slam action of her own during a power jam. While enduring big hits from Bunnie Low-Browski and Ionic Bondage of CCDG, Petal netted 12 points.
Socialite Valentine Massacre had difficulties achieving lead jammer status, but her competitive will kept her racing the Blackout jammers out of the pack and around the track consistently forcing them to call off the jam, which prevented them from scoring. Trouble Helix, Salacious T, and Faye Stunaway of CCDG walled up against Blackouts jammer Miso Sari, while Beattie Sedgwick went on offensive to help Liberty Spykes in a two-minute jam that earned the Blackouts another 13 points, bringing the score to 35-10, Blackouts.
In the 10th jam of the evening, blocker Lady Miss Bier of the Socialites knocked jammer Scary Garcia out of bounds. In the process, Liberty Spykes again scored two grand slams for her team bringing the score to 37-20, with Blackouts still in the lead. Penalty trouble in the next jam left blockers Beattie Sedgwick and Salacious T alone on the track as they tried to control the pack and help jammer Roll-R Damage score 4 points. But after Roll-R was sent back to the box, Beka Rekanize returned to slam 15 points for the Blackouts.
The Socialite blockers fought back with waterfalling hits from Bunnie Low-Browski and Spleana Rupture. But it was a big hit from Kimmie S’More that sent Scary Garcia into a spin fall in the last jam of the first half where Roll-R Damage scored two grand slams for the Socialites, bringing the halftime score to 104-38, Blackouts.
Facing a 66-point deficit at the beginning of the second half, the Socialites reorganized their pack strategy. Before long it was the Blackout jammers who were frequently sent to the box. The Socialites went on a scoring rampage led by jammers Roll-R Damage and Liberty Spykes. In one jam, CCDG blockers Faye Stunaway, Lady Miss Bier, Kimmie S’More, and Bunnie Low-Browski held up a four-person wall against BBRG jammer Scary Garcia while Socialites jammer Valentine Massacre had to do a little one-on-one to elude Blackout blocker Heavy Chevy. Scary Garcia’s aggression led to a penalty, and upon return she was greeted by waterfalling hits from Faye, Lady Miss Bier, and Kimmie. She soon revisited the box that jam, leaving Valentine to wrack up 15 points bringing the score to 117-77, Blackouts.
Scary’s continued penalties and expulsion created a power jam situation for CCDG jammer Cassie Khaos in her first game as a Socialite. With the offensive help of her blockers, she tacked on another 5 points to the growing score. In the next jam, CCDG blockers Lady Miss Bier, Trouble Helix, and Ionic Bondage worked together to goat BBRG’s Dot Coma, while Socialites’ jammer Liberty Spykes earned another 10 points. CCDG jammer Roll-R Damage hit her way through the pack against Blackouts’ blocker Natural Disaster. Roll-R also gave some love taps to BBRG jammer Beka Rekanize, sending her out of bounds. Roll-R earned another 9 points with only 8 minutes 33 seconds left in the game, and a score of 141-109, Blackouts.
The last two jams of the night clearly demonstrated why Roll-R Damage was voted MVP by Black-N-Bluegrass. Kimmie S’More, Lady Miss Bier, and even Roll-R Damage took turns hitting Petal to the Metal while earning 8 points for the jam, including a grand slam. Roll-R jumped on the jammer line again for the last jam of the night. She fought hard though obviously exhausted. A great defense by the Socialites slowed the pack down and Roll-R scored another 12 points. However, Roll-R took a hit to the head that left her on the ground. After getting the all-clear from the medics, everyone was relieved to see her get up on her own.
The final score was an impressive showing of 153-129, Blackouts. The Socialites outscored in the second half 91-49, almost double the output of the Blackouts, with Roll-R Damage earning more than half of the Socialites’ points for that half.
The Socialites will have their last home bout of the season against the Rollergirls of Central Kentucky, and the Party Crashers will face off against the Cornfed Derby Dames of Muncie, Indiana. See both teams August 13 at Big Top Brouhaha at the Forum at Fishers.
Party Crashers Put Up Good Fight Against BBRG Shiners
By CarrBomb and Pamplona Pain
Similar to the Socialites’ match against the Black-N-Bluegrass Rollergirls’ Blackouts earlier in the evening of July 23 at the BBRG’s home track in Florence, Kentucky, the Circle City Derby Girls’ Party Crashers faced intense heat and a competitive run against the BBRG’s Shiners, including a couple power jams on both sides. But the “w” ultimately went to the home team with a score of 147-83 in favor of the Shiners.
The bout started off close with Circle City jammer Wrecker Becker getting lead for the first jam, while Shiners jammer Kris P Cream tied her score at 4-4. The score stayed close between the Shiners and the Party Crashers until the fourth jam, when BBRG’s jammer Rowdy Rip-her faced off against Wrecker and scored 15 points in that jam. Meanwhile, Wrecker spent part of the jam in the box along with CCDG blocker Bunnie Low-Browski, who had already played with the Socialites in the first bout.
After that, the Party Crashers fought hard to catch up, but a few penalty troubles for Circle City and fierce defense from BBRG made it difficult for the visiting team to have an easy comeback. However, the Party Crashers were able to inch their way up scoring 28 points in the second half of the first period, including a 17-point jam by CCDG jammer Jackie Bauer in a jam that saw many of the Shiners go to the box. The Shiners’ scored 17 points in the same period of time, only a few points per jam.
By the end of the first half, the score was 65-36, Shiners.
In the second half, the Party Crashers again fought hard to keep the Shiners from scoring more than a few points per jam, if any, but the CCDG skaters had an equally hard time of getting their score to go up.
In the first 12 minutes of the second half, Shiners jammers again outscored Circle City, further solidifying BBRG’s lead to 93-46. This was largely due to the fact the Shiners were more likely to get lead jammer status, effectively preventing CCDG jammers from scoring more than 1 or 2 points per jam.
However, CCDG jammer Jackie Bauer scored 7 points in one jam when she was lead, and Party Crashers jammer Strawberry Smackquiri scored 10 points as lead jammer about halfway through the second period, bringing the score to 106-61, Shiners.
With 10 minutes and 30 seconds left in the game, Party Crashers skater Nova Blaze did an impressive job to control the pack as her jammer, Jackie Bauer, scored 4 points before the Shiners’ jammer could score any points.
But in the next jam, CCDG jammer Strawberry spent some time in the box, leading to a power jam and 14 points by Shiners jammer Bitter Buffalo, changing the score to 124-70, Shiners.
While the next few jams were close, a few jams after Bitter Buffalo’s power jam, teammate Kris P Cream got lead and scored another 16 points for the Shiners, while Party Crashers Strawberry Smackquiri and Nova Blaze sat in the box. After a final jam featuring BBRG’s Captain Skinny Minnie wearing the jammer panty for the first time all night as she faced off against Circle City’s Wrecker Becker, the game wrapped up a score of 147-83 in favor of the Shiners.
The CCDG Party Crashers face off against the Cornfed Derby Dames of Muncie, Indiana in a doubleheader August 13 at the Forum at Fishers, while the CCDG Socialites will take on the Rollergirls of Central Kentucky later that night.

Derby Girls’ Socialites Rock Rockford
Photos by Mark Lebryk
INDIANAPOLIS—The Circle City Derby Girls ran away with the lead in the second half of their July 9 bout against the Rockford Rage (Rockford, Ill.) after struggling for dominance in the first half at their home venue, the Forum at Fishers. The teams stayed neck-and-neck for most of the first half, but the ejection of the Rage’s standout jammer Barbie Got Back and CCDG’s formidable defense seemed to wear on Rockford in the second. The Socialites steadily boosted their own score to win, 150-92.
The first jam of the bout pitted Roll-R Damage from Circle City, a WFTDA Apprentice league, against Barbie Got Back from Rockford, a WFTDA league.Barbie quickly cut through CCDG’s defense, but with Roll-R hot on her tail, she called it after scoring 3 points.
The teams traded lead jammer status throughout the first half, with Circle City trailing for much of the beginning. However, aggressive jamming and strong defense —as well as a few key power jams—allowed the Indy team to stay within spitting distance of Rockford and eventually take the lead.
In the opening jam of the second half, Barbie Got Back snagged lead jammer, but was ejected for gross misconduct after rushing a jam ref over a disagreement about a call. The ref said she attempted to call the jam without touching her hips, a ruling that sent her bench into an uproar. The jam ended with CCDG ahead, 73-67.
The loss of Barbie seemed to affect Rockford’s ability to score as the period unfolded. The Rage only managed 25 points for the rest of the half, while the Derby Girls put up 77.
Valentine Massacre, a transfer from Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls who has mostly played blocker for CCDG this season, had an aggressive turn with the star in the fifth jam of the period, scoring 20 points for her team. CCDG’s jammers got lead in over 70 percent of the remaining jams while blockers like Trouble Helix and Salacious T terrorized RR’s jammers in the pack.
Even as Circle City pulled away during the second period, Rockford’s defensive players’ May Q. Hurt and Taryn Skulz, who was awarded MVP
blocker, laid some hard hits on the Derby Girls’ jammers. Rockford MVP jammer POW Bella grabbed lead several times in the half as well. Despite the Rage’s efforts, they were unable to overcome the Socialites, who won, 150-92.
The Socialites and Party Crashers will travel to Florence, Ky., on July 23 for a doubleheader against the two teams of the Black ‘N’ Bluegrass Rollergirls.

BOUT RECAP #1: Socialites Stopped by Shorthanded Des Moines
By Jackie Bauer
Photos by Damage Control
The Circle City Derby Girls lost a bruising bout against the Des Moines Derby Dames, who traveled to Indianapolis from Iowa’s capital city with a roster of only eight players instead of the usual 14. During the second half of the June 11th bout, the Socialites chipped away at Des Moines’ dominating lead, but were ultimately unable to overcome the Dames, losing 154-88.
The first whistle blew with Socialites' jammer Roll-R Damage matched against Cosmo Disco for the Derby Dames, also known as D3. Roll-R got lead with Cosmo fast on her heels and called it off after scoring a single point. The second jam pitted CCDG’s Vivi Section against D3’s star jammer Stella Italiana. Vivi went to the box on a back block during her initial pass, while Stella snagged multiple grand slams, bringing the score to 24-1.
Neither CCDG’s Liberty Spykes nor D3’s Autopsy Turvey were able to achieve lead jammer in the third jam, but the Dames’ hard-hitting defense and a trip to the box for Liberty kept Circle City from scoring. Autopsy deflected blows from Kimmie S’more and Faye Stunaway, and scored 8 more points for her team. During the subsequent power jam, former Italian national speed skater and D3 jammer Stella Italiana showcased her impressive agility and patience on the track, widening the gap to 51-1.
The Dames continued to score unanswered points until the 10th jam of the night when CCDG’s blockers tenderized D3 jammer Smallsbury Steak, who was called out on a major track cut. With Smallsbury stewing in the box, Robin Sock’Em nabbed 9 points for trailing Circle City, bringing the score to 82-10. Things were looking up for the Socialites when Roll-R Damage stepped up to the line solo. She easily got lead and scored a grand slam, but was issued a major track cut on her second pass, a call that sent her bench into an uproar. Smallsbury returned to the track and scored 9 points. The Socialites managed to add a few points as the first-period clock ran down, but couldn’t outpace D3’s scoring. CCDG was down 111-26 at the half.
Despite the score deficit, the Socialites stepped up their offense and defense in the second half. Autopsy Turvey banked 5 points for D3 in the first jam of the second half, but Robin Sock'Em answered with another 5 for CCDG in the second jam. During Stella Italiana’s second turn with the star in the period, she went to the box and gave CCDG’s Roll-R Damage the opportunity to rack up two grand slams. Vivi Section and Robin Sock'Em both got lead in their next two jams and scored 8 and 4 points respectively, while Roll-R battled it out with Stella in a later jam where each got 3 points. In a subsequent jam, Robin got a grand slam, but Stella was able to sneak through the pack for another 4 points before the refs blew four whistles. The call-and-response scoring continued the rest of the half with neither team putting up more than four points at a time.
During the final 30 minutes, the Socialites controlled the pack speed more effectively than they did in the first half. Blockers Ionic Bondage, Spleana Rupture, and Salacious T dished out hits while Valentine Massacre and Lady Miss Bier contained D3’s jammers through positional blocking and effective bridging. Des Moines’ jammers took turns as blockers to compensate for the team’s short roster, and MVP jammer Stella Italiana played nearly every jam, sometimes wearing the star in back-to-back jams. During the second half, CCDG scored 62 points and held the Dames to 43. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome D3’s commanding lead, and Circle City lost 154-88.
CCDG will face the Derby Dames for a rematch in Des Moines, Iowa, on November 5. The Socialites play at home against the Rockford Rage (Rockford, Ill.) on July 9.
BOUT RECAP #2: Party Crashers Demolish Dire Skates
By Jamburglar
Photos by Junior
The Circle City Derby Girls’ Party Crashers rode big hits and smooth jamming to victory during their June 11 bout against the Dire Skates of Richmond, Ind. The Skates ran into tough walls and penalty trouble, while the Party Crashers dominated by controlling pack speed and consistently claiming lead jammer status to win 175-54.
The Party Crashers set the tone for the bout in the first jam, holding the Dire Skates blockers at the line to draw a major foul on April PLOWhers, who tried to push the pack forward. CCDG jammer Cassie Khaos earned lead while DS jammer Foxy Hellrider stalled behind Megan Enemies and Dread Pirate Roberta, letting Cassie pick up a grand slam and call the jam before Foxy could score. The Party Crashers maintained this style of play throughout the first half, earning lead jammer 15 of 18 jams and keeping the Dire Skates scoreless for 13 jams. The Crashers frustrated the Skates with indomitable walls and slow pacing. In the 7th jam, a three-person wall of Bambi Lance, Bona Contention, and Megan Enemies held Foxy Hellrider until, frustrated, she picked up a track-cut major, allowing Wrecker Becker to become lead jammer for another power jam. Richmond responded with its own three-wall to hold Wrecker during her first scoring pass, but the Party Crashers quickly split the pack, rendering the Skates’ ploy ineffective. The last jam of the half started with one blocker from each team in the box and Malice B Stopless jamming against Nova Blaze. Malice emerged from the pack first but grabbed a minor penalty, allowing Nova to become lead jammer and call the jam to prevent Dire Skates from scoring. At the half, the Party Crashers held a commanding lead at 105-23.
The Dire Skates came out swinging during the second half, keeping their jammers out of the box and earning lead jammer status 8 of 18 times. However, in 6 of the 8 jams where the Dire Skates earned lead, the Party Crashers’ heads-up play allowed them to match—or beat—the points scored by Richmond. The blockers for both teams ran into more foul trouble in the second half, but the Crashers largely dominated the packs, even when outnumbered. In the 12th jam of the second half, with two CCDG blockers in the penalty box, Richmond’s RollHer Zombie was quick to earn lead.Yet despite her team’s four-person wall, CCDG’s blockers opened a path for Cassie Khaos to score 5 points while RollHer picked up 4 before calling the jam. Then, early in the 15th jam, CCDG blockers Bambi Lance and Barb Dwyer were sent to the box—but Jackie Bauer and Bona Contention still held up opposing jammer Emily KickNsuM as Nova Blaze picked up three grand slams. At one point, the Party Crashers delayed the jammer whistle for 40 seconds to free their blockers from the penalty box.
CCDG’s standout jammers were Nova Blaze with 73 points and 12 grand slams in 11 jams, Cassie Khaos with 58 points and 8 grand slams in 14 jams, and Wrecker Becker with 35 points and 4 grand slams in 8 jams. Dire Skates jammed eight of their players, compared to CCDG’s five, and their lead scorer was Foxy Hellrider with 14 points, RollHer Zombie with 13 points, and Six Inch Killettos with 12 points.
The Party Crashers next travel with the Socialites to Florence, Ky., on July 23 for a doubleheader with Black ‘N’ Bluegrass Rollergirls.

BOUT RECAP: Party Crashers Suffer Narrow Defeat Against Lake City
By Vivi Section
Photos by Damage Control
The Circle City Derby Girls’ Party Crashers lost to the Lake City Roller Dolls (Warsaw, Ind.) in nail-biting bout that had fans on their feet during the final, game-deciding jam at the Forum in Fishers, Ind. The lead flip-flopped throughout the June 4 match—which was characterized by fierce blocking and tenacious jamming on both sides—but the Roller Dolls prevailed in the final minutes, winning 102-94.
The bout was contentious from the opening jam, which pitted Party Crashers jammer Fly against the Roller Dolls’ MVP jammer, The Adkins Riot. Both skaters snagged penalties during their initial passes, resulting in a full two-minute jam in which each nabbed 8 points for her team. The scores inched up until the fourth jam when CCDG jammer Strawberry Smackquiri went to the penalty box, followed by three of her blockers. Lake City took advantage of a power jam situation to score 15 points, bringing the score to 27-10 in favor of Warsaw. Four jams later, the Party Crashers seized their own power jam opportunity when LCRD jammer Roxy Runaway and MVP blocker Carmin Slamdiego went to the box, and Wrecker Becker took 15 points for Circle City, bringing a tie within reach at 35-32.
As the half progressed, the lead went back and forth. With about eight minutes left, Wrecker managed to score 2 points to LCRD jammer Spiteful’s 1, even though Spiteful had lead. Cassie Khaos was able to add 3 unanswered points in the next jam, thanks to stellar positional blocking by Bunnie Low-Browski, giving CCDG a 10-point lead. However, during four out of the five remaining jams in the half, the Party Crashers were unable to score despite great waterfalling by blockers Barb Dwyer, Strawberry Smackquiri, Megan Enemies and Dread Pirate Roberta. Circle City was down 53-52 at the buzzer.
In the first jam of the second period, Fly grabbed a point and called the jam with the gazelle-legged Adkins Riot hot on her tail, tying the score again. The teams traded points until the sixth jam, when LCRD jammer Roxy Runaway went to the box for a major track cut and CCDG scored 15 unanswered points, bringing the score to 74-61 in their favor. Again, both teams inched up their scores despite strong defensive play. Midway through the second period, both teams’ jammers’ got stuck behind ferocious four-person walls of opposing blockers for nearly two minutes. Cassie Khaos got taken out by a solid hit from Lake City blocker Miso Special just moments before Warsaw jammer Roxy Runaway finally fought her way through and got lead with one second left in the jam.
The contentious battle continued until the final moments of the game. With fewer than two minutes left and the Party Crashers ahead, LCRD jammer Spiteful managed to bring the score within spitting distance of Circle City as jammer Cassie Khaos—who began the jam with one minor penalty and picked up two subsequent minors for back blocking—got a minor track cut as the whistle blew. With seconds left and the Party Crashers ahead, 94-93, Cassie went to the box and Lake City called a strategic time out to ensure another jam.
Fans rose to their feet to watch the final moments of the game, in which top-scoring Lake City jammer The Adkins Riot gained lead after a no-pack start and scored 9 points to overcome Circle City, 102-94. The Party Crashers hope to beat against the Dire Skates of Richmond, Ind., on June 11th at the Forum in Fishers.

BOUT RECAP: Socialites’ Undefeated Streak Stops at Derby City
By Jackie Bauer
LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Circle City Derby Girls' Socialites lost their first bout of the season during a hard-fought battle against the Derby City Roller Girls at Louisville’s Manslick Rollerdrome. The Socialites kept the score within reach during a tense first half, but ultimately couldn't overcome DCRG’s stellar defense and aggressive jamming in the second, losing 144-69.
Last year, Derby Girls suffered a home opening loss to the Derby City Roller Girls, a WFTDA league, and were eager to show them how far they’d come in a year. Trick Pony was the lead scorer in the opening jam, but Vivi Section managed 3 points for CCDG, now a WFTDA Apprentice league. From the start, Circle City jammers struggled against the opposing team's formidable walls and hard hits. But when DCRG’s jammers went to the box early on, Circle City capitalized on the situation by controlling the pack and allowing jammers Vivi Section, Roll R Damage, and Liberty Spykes to tie up the score at 31-31.
What followed was a nail-biting jam-for-jam exchange where each team took turns getting lead, earning a few points and conservatively calling it off before the other jammer could score. The score slowly inched up on both sides until Derby City got wise to Circle City's strategy and began controlling power jam situations that should have paid off for the Socialites. DCRG bolstered their walls and punished CCDG’s jammers with massive hits, allowing their jammer to return to play and speed through the pack before Circle City’s could.
Victory still seemed well within the Socialites’ grasp until the last jam of the first period, when Robin Sock'Em picked up her fourth minor track cut and went to the box while Trick Pony galloped around the track for a 20-point jam that put the score at 72-48. CCDG tried to regroup at halftime, but never caught DCRG again. Small mistakes and communication failures allowed Derby City jammers to pass the pack easily on the outside while Circle City jammers got tied up behind a wall of opposing blockers in the front or back of the pack. CCDG was unable to score for the first five jams of the second half, widening the gap to 109-48.
Then jammers Vivi Section, Roll R Damage, and Robin Sock'Em fought for control of the next three jams, inching up their score to 109-55, despite trouble from Derby City MVP blocker Murda Inc. Circle City brought in relief jammers Salacious T and Valentine Massacre, but neither managed to score during short jams.
Later in the period, Circle City blocker Ionic Bondage delivered the biggest hit to DCRG’s top scoring jammer Trick Pony, who got the wind knocked out of her and didn't look accustomed to being on the floor. Ionic also floored jammer Kennidee Collapser and formed a wall with teammates Kimmie S'More, Beattie Sedgwick, and Lady Miss Bier that allowed Circle City jammer Roll R Damage an easy inside line to score five points.
Late in the second half, Circle City jammer Liberty Spykes came back into play after poodling to clear her minor penalties, and scored Circle City's last points of the bout, thanks to an assist from Lady Miss Bier and a path cleared by Nova Blaze. Derby City jammers Kennidee Collapser and Fury Fae polished off the match with another 9 points, bringing the final score to 144-69. The Socialites plan to return to their winning ways when they face the Des Moines Derby Dames on June 11 at the Forum in Fishers.

BOUT RECAP: Derby Girls dominate Battle Broads in second home bout
By Malice Munro
Photos by Junior
At their second home bout of the 2011 season, the Circle City Derby Girls’ Socialites trounced the Springfield RollerGirls’ Battle Broads, 317-27. This was the Socialites’ second matchup with the Battle Broads, Springfield’s B-team. When they met in Springfield last year, the Broads took home the victory, so the Socialites’ commanding success came as a something of a surprise to both leagues and their fans.
Though there were some nerve-wracking moments early on in the bout—Springfield’s Mary Lou Wretched did some excellent blocking on CCDG jammer Vivi Section, and Socialite blocker Cruel Whip took a scary spill in the third jam—the Socialites’ defensive play kept Springfield for most of the first half. Socialite jammers Roll-R-Damage, Liberty Spykes and Vivi Section rocketed the score into triple digits before the first quarter elapsed. Mary Lou Wretched won lead jammer status against Liberty Spykes in the tenth jam of the night, managing to put the first point on the board for the Battle Broads, though Liberty managed to score some points in that jam as well, taking the score to 131-1 in favor of the Socialites. CCDG jammer Shock Hop was sent to the box in two consecutive jams, allowing Mary Lou Wretched and Miss Kitty Rosenkill to eke out seven more points for Springfield. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late, and the victor of this bout was clear to most well before halftime, which saw 176-8 on the scoreboard in favor of CCDG.
In the second half, the Socialites took advantage of their commanding lead, using nontraditional jammers, unusual strategies and crowd-thrilling derby stunts. Power blockers Salacious T, Lady Miss Bier, Spleana Rupture and Trouble Helix all enjoyed the jammer spotlight during this half, each contributing their own points to the scoreboard. In the first jam, Roll-R-Damage pulled Liberty Spykes through her legs in a move known as “the jammer baby.” Later, Kimmie S’More offered Beattie Sedgwick two leg whips in one jam, causing the crowd to erupt with applause. Two star passes and an assist called the “waitress” were also performed during this half.
Springfield jammers Mary Lou Wretched, Miss Kitty Rosenkill and the Fabulous Flash were able to achieve lead jammer status and put points on the board during the second half, but the Socialites walked away with a tremendous victory. Cruel Whip, in her final Circle City bout before her transfer to the Windy City Rollers, scored 16 points in the final jam against the Fabulous Flash, as announcer Mr. Macabre made an inspiring speech looking back on her many contributions to the league. Jammer Mary Lou Wretched and tenacious blocker Milla Tyme were awarded visiting MVP titles by Circle City.
While this bout was far from a nail-biter, the Circle City Derby Girls see the outcome of this bout as a testament to how far they have come as a league in the past year. The 2011 season continues for the new WFTDA Apprentices when they travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on WFTDA members the Derby City Roller Girls on May 21st.

BOUT RECAP: Socialites Score Big Win Against Southern Illinois in Home Opener
By Malice Munro
Photos by Junior
The Circle City Socialites remain undefeated this season, pulling out a tremendous win over WFTDA Apprentice league the Southern Illinois Rollergirls (Marion, Ill.), 181-55.
The bout started out as a nail-biter. After the Socialites’ jammer Roll-R-Damage set up a 1-0 lead in the first jam, Liberty Spykes and SIRG jammer Arcane Sugar tied it up at 3-3. Five minutes into the period, SIRG took a three-point lead, when jammer Eveready emerged from the pack before Liberty. By the time Liberty escaped, obtained lead jammer status and called off the jam, the score was 10-7 in favor of Southern Illinois.
Top-scoring CCDG jammer Vivi Section, CCDG’s tight walls and strategic play quickly squelched that trend. Vivi achieved lead jammer status and scored an easy, breezy 19 points while blockers Faye Stunaway and Salacious T repeatedly knocked SIRG jammer Jack E. RIPHer out of bounds, forcing her to the back of the pack. SIRG’s next jammer out, Ninja Hurtle, was sent to the penalty box, allowing the Socialites’ Liberty Spykes and Shock Hop to rack up the points to 45 while SIRG was kept to 10. Throughout the rest of the period, both teams’ scores grew steadily, but Southern Illinois was never able to capture the lead or close the 35-point gap. At the half, the score was 90-34 in favor of the Socialites.
CCDG impressed the crowd—and SIRG—by not getting cocky during halftime: the Socialites’ jammers fought to the finish and achieved lead jammer status in the first six jams of the second period. CCDG scored points in each of these jams, while SIRG’s skaters found themselves stuck once again, this time at 34 points. During the second jam of the half, Liberty Spykes had rounded 100 points. By the time SIRG’s Krush Groove once again became lead jammer Roll-R-Damage was sent to the box, the score of 125-37 was nearly insurmountable for the visiting team.
SIRG clearly had grown tired of being pushed around, and they called for three timeouts in the second half of the period, plus an official timeout. The girls from Southern Illinois seemed to rally somewhat after these breaks, and first-time jammers Bubbles La Rue and Splatter both achieved lead jammer status for SIRG, along with Krush Groove. With six minutes left in the half, however, Spleana Rupture demonstrated some beautiful blocking, allowing Liberty to rack up even more points for CCDG.
SIRG called a timeout with twenty seconds left in the half, allowing for one more jam, despite the 101-point differential between the teams. Southern Illinois fielded Margaret Bleed in her first and last jam of the night, and she was sent to the box. Star blocker and birthday girl Trouble Helix took advantage of the opportunity by donning the jammer star and scoring over twenty points in a final power jam. When the final whistle blew, the score was 181-55.
The resounding win was CCDG’s A-team’s second in a row over a WFTDA Apprentice league after beating Toledo’s Glass City Rollers last month. The Socialites’ next bout is against the Springfield Rollergirls Battle Broads on May 7 at the Forum in Fishers, Ind. They hope to remain undefeated.

BOUT RECAP: Party Crashers Vex Vixens for their Second Victory of the Season
By Malice Munro
Photos by Junior
The Circle City Party Crashers kicked off the Circle City Derby Girls’ home season opener with a strong win over the Lansing Derby Vixens (Lansing, Mich.), 154-119. It was the newly-formed B-team’s third win of four bouts they’ve played this year and the second win of two during their official season.
Both teams fielded excellent jammers in the first jam: CCDG’s Defiance and Lansing’s Mullicious Intent ended up being the primary scorers for their respective teams, and the first jam was a close fight. Neither achieved lead jammer status and CCDG eked out a lead of 7-5.
Lansing managed to grab lead jammer status about half the time, but with CCDG’s tough defense and smart jamming, they were able to pull away quickly. Robin Sock’em, Cassie Khaos and Jackie Bauer added points in the following jams. Mullicious Intent continued to demonstrate her prowess as a jammer, but found herself in penalty trouble in the fourth jam of the night, and strong walls from CCDG’s blockers kept Lansing’s score at 12, while CCDG’s four-jammer pool widened the lead to 46-16 by the middle of the first half. Lansing jammer Rock of Shove was also sent to the box with ten minutes left in the half, allowing Defiance and Robin to add more points. Robin Sock’em rounded the century mark with a minute left in the period, making the score a neat 100-50 at the half.
Lansing finally seemed to adjust to CCDG’s signature strategic play about five minutes in to the second half, with jammers Audrey Floorburn, Rock of Shove, Katom Bomb, Emma Nockuout and even MVP blocker Ali Always achieving lead jammer status for an impressive mid-period streak. Unfortunately for Lansing, the adjustment was too little, too late. Though the Vixens cleaned up their play and their score increased steadily throughout the second half, they weren’t able to curb CCDG’s excellent defensive play. After a strong power jam where Lansing jammer Emma Nockuout picked up a grand slam while CCDG jammer Polly Dent sat in the box, the final whistle blew, declaring a 154-119 victory for the Party Crashers.
The Party Crashers hope to continue their winning streak in their next bout. They’ll host the Dire Skates of Richmond, Ind., on June 11 at the Forum in Fishers, Ind.

BOUT RECAP: Circle City Derby Girls Crash Cape Girardeau for Season’s Second Win!
By Guiyatine Gretyl
Photos by Strawberry Smackquiri
The Circle City Derby Girls unleashed their new B-team, the Party Crashers, against the Cape Girardeau Roller Girls on March 12, when the Party Crashers brought home a triumphant 188-90 win.
The ’80s-themed “Slay Anything” bout marked the bouting debut of several Circle City Derby Girls. Jammers Pistol Hips, Cassie Khaos, and Defiance dominated the bout, scoring the bulk of the points that gave the team its 98-point win. Cassie Khaos scored 37 points during the first half, including a 19-point jam that made her the highest scorer for the period. Pistol Hips earned a total of 50 points during the bout, and was named CCDG MVP for the night. During one 15-point jam, she rounded turn two, paused a moment to take a breath, then lapped the pack and scored more points. Defiance scored 36 points in the second half and claimed the title of highest-scoring jammer for the evening, with 59 points. Malice Munro added another 18 points, and did it with style—during one13-point jam, she blew kisses to the camera before entering the pack and scoring even more points.
But a jammer would be nowhere without her blockers, and those in the Party Crasher pack showed off a fierce use of strategy throughout the bout. Although CCDG was called on more penalties in the second period, it didn't hold them back. In one jam, three CCDG blockers sat in the penalty box while Wrecker Becker played pivot and assisted Pistol in scoring 15 points while holding Cape Girardeau to 0. Circle City blockers executed stellar walls, whips and hits from Polly Dent, Dread Pirate Roberta, Tiny Ann Mighty, and Bona Contention while their jammers lit up the scoreboard.
Cape Girardeau also had some star skaters. Laryn Kill proved she was an up and coming triple threat: As a jammer, she found her way through holes; as blocker, she showed off great hitting skills; and as pivot, she kept her pack’s strategy in place. Skayton Manning, Cape Girardeau MVP for the evening, showed off her jammer skills by single-handedly earning almost half of her team’s total points.
With two victories already in our fishnets, join us for Royal Pain, our first home bout of the season, and a double-header to boot. On April 9, the Party Crashers will battle the Lansing Derby Vixens of Lansing, Mich. Later, the Socialites will take on the Southern Illinois Roller Girls of Marion, Ill., at the Forum at Fishers. And as always, be sure to join your favorite roller majesties from both teams at the after-party up the street at Claude & Annie’s.

BOUT RECAP: Circle City Derby Girls Start 2011 Season with a Victory!
VIEW PHOTOS FROM THE BOUT
The girls in green donned their new white jerseys for the first time in Toledo, Ohio, when they took on the Glass City Rollers in their first bout of the season. Circle City's A-team, the Socialites, squared off against this WFTDA apprentice team, emerging with a 157-42 win.
The bout started out with the promise of a close game as each team put up two points in jams one and two. Then CCDG jammer Vivi Section put up a quick 9 points in the third jam while her pack's defense, led by pivot Nova Blaze, shut down Glass City's jammer. CCDG held Glass City scoreless for four straight jams and only gave up 18 points in the first period, thanks to stellar blocking from Cruel Whip, Ionic Bondage, and Bambi Lance.
Circle City's star jammer for the first period was, without a doubt, number 2D6, Roll-R-Damage, who put up an impressive 47 of the 70 points scored by CCDG in the first period (including two 15-point jams). Vivi Section contributed 17 more points, and the wily Liberty Spykes added 6 points despite nursing a recent ankle injury.
The second period saw more of the same high-scoring action on the Circle City side, as Liberty Spykes found her game and outscored her fellow jammers with 35 points, 21 of which were scored in a single jam. The stalwart blocker Shock Hop also donned the star and somehow made a 20-point jam look easy.
This last period also saw more great blocking from the CCDG crew, including the much anticipated match-up between CCDG blocker Kimmie S'more and Glass City's Gim'me Moore. The Circle City girls dominated GCR in their ability to switch effectively between offense and defense. Blockers Faye Stunaway and Trouble Helix terrorized Glass City's jammers, while one-woman-wall Beattie Sedgwick held the line every time Glass City's blockers attempted an offensive play.
Refs called noticeably more penalties in the second period than the first, resulting in several power jams. Glass City countered a strong front wall from CCDG with a strategic splitting of the pack during a power jam in Glass City's favor. Circle City quickly adjusted, however, and held the opposing jammer off until theirs could return to the floor. CCDG also showed their own mastery of the power jam by bringing the pack to a halt in the bout's 34th jam of the night, allowing Liberty Spykes the opportunity to score her 21-point jam, the highest of the evening.
The final score showed a huge victory for Circle City, who won with a score of 157 over Glass City's 42.
The Circle City Derby Girls' Socialites will once again square off against the Glass City Rollers this season, this time at home, on June 11. That double-header at the Forum at Fishers will also include a bout between CCDG's B-team, the Party Crashers, and the Dire Skates of Richmond, Indiana. Grudge match!

Party Crashers Win One, Lose One on Debut Bout Day
VIEW PHOTOS FROM THE BOUT
Clean play, a deep jammer pool and tight strategy paid off for the Circle City Derby Girls’ new B-team, the Party Crashers, who made their debut on February 5 in Bloomington. The Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls’ B-Cup Challenge, which scheduled several B- and C-teams for two bouts apiece, brought together leagues from across the state: Circle City Derby Girls’ Party Crashers; BHRG’s own Code Blue Assassins (B-team) and Heart Attacks (C-team); both home teams of the Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls; South Bend Derby Girls; Soy City Rollers (Decatur, Ill.); and Twin City Derby Girls (Champaign-Urbana, Ill.). The B-Cup Challenge, with the titular trophy going to the team that beat its opponent by the biggest point difference, marked the Party Crashers’ first-ever bouts as a team.
Bout #1: CCDG (Party Crashers) 99, Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls (Team #1) 58.
After a scoreless first jam, Lafayette picked up the first lead when star jammer Rika Reckless scored four points over Jackie Bauer’s two. In the next few jams, however, Bauer and Party Crasher jammers Polly Dent, Liberty Spykes, and Vivi Section were able to steal the lead and widen the gap to a more comfortable 14-5. At the end of the first ten minutes, Spykes widened the lead over Lafayette by scoring a grand slam on Restless, who was lead jammer but had been sent to the penalty box.
LBD jammers achieved lead for a spate of jams toward the middle of the first half, only to stall out behind a CCDG wall and eventually be forced to call the jam after zero to no points.Circle City’s infamously tough defensive blocking came in handy as Lafayette’s primary jammer rotation (Rika Reckless, Biscuits n’ Crazy, Psycho Socializer and Fierce B-otch) achieved lead jammer status. For a while, due to jammer penalties and Lafayette’s strong defense, the Party Crashers were unable to score, keeping their tally at 19 points for several jams. Thanks to Circle City’s strong blocker rotation, however, Lafayette only managed to score a total of four more points over the course of those jams, bringing the score to 19-9 in favor of the Party Crashers.
The game changed once again with ten minutes left in the first half: Liberty Spykes racked up two grand slams, while Psycho Socializer was sent to the box early in the jam. Two jams later, killer hitter Salacious T pulled on the star cap and got two grand slams of her own. CCDG’s defense proved strong, making Lafayette fight for every point. After a neck-and-neck matchup between jammers Polly Dent and Rika Reckless, the half came to a close with a score of 40-19.
After halftime, Lafayette was bloodthirsty, garnering themselves a lot of points—and penalty trouble. Fierce B-otch quickly became lead jammer in the first jam and scored three points before getting sent to the box for a major track cut, allowing sassy rookie Mistress Azrael to sweep up 11 points in the Party Crashers’ biggest jam of the bout. Polly Dent took easy advantage of a power jam against Biscuits n’ Crazy, who was sitting in the box with two of Lafayette’s blockers, while the Party Crashers had five on the track. Jackie Bauer, Azrael and Cruel Whip continued to steadily bump up the score. Their points didn’t go unanswered, as Lafayette jammers furiously racked up points for their team—Psycho Socializer scored nine points in their biggest jam of the bout against Jackie Bauer, and Lafayette’s bench put in Scarburst as jammer, which proved to be a solid choice.
Both teams’ scores rose steadily during the last quarter, but since most jams saw Lafayette jammers either starting in the box or quickly being sent off on track cuts, the Party Crashers’ inaugural victory was sealed. Fittingly, starter jammer Jackie Bauer scored the last four points of this exciting if low-scoring bout, bringing the final score to 99-58. — Malice Munro
Bout #2: Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls (Code Blue Assassins) 163, CCDG (Party Crashers) 87.
Great jamming won the day for the Code Blue Assassins in the headline bout of the B-Cup Challenge, pitting the B-teams of BHRG and CCDG against each other. The Party Crashers walled up and dished out hard hits to form a strong defense, but impressively fast, nimble BHRG jammers such as Felanie Charges, Bobbi McGuillotine, and Nuck L. Sammie still managed to lap the pack often enough to nearly double the Party Crashers’ points.
BHRG’s Bobbi McGuillotine established herself as a formidable jammer in the first half, repeatedly earning lead jammer status and racking up impressive scores. Quick, smart moves from Nova Blaze and bulldog-like tenacity from Cruel Whip occasionally delayed BHRG jammers, but usually not for long—these girls knew how to take a licking and keep on ticking (and point-scoring). Liberty Spykes reliably racked up more big jams, as she had in the morning bout, and newcomer teammate Cassie Khaos (a veteran of Indianapolis Junior Roller Derby) nabbed lead jammer status a couple of times, but by halftime, the Code Blue Assassins were ahead 86-53.
The second period began with the BHRG jammer in the penalty box. Ionic Bondage, Nova Blaze, and Spleana Rupture kept the pack at a near-standstill, with Spleana laying out a few hits for good measure, to help Liberty Spykes score 18 points.
With 23 minutes left in the bout, Liberty earned lead jammer; BHRG jammer Nuck L. Sammie took a beating from Spleana Rupture and Vivi Section, who knocked her down and steered her out of bounds, with Sammie eventually heading to the penalty box. Ionic and Spleana quickly stopped the pack, lending a hand to lead-jammer Liberty, who was knocked down by BHRG’s Megabyte but went on to earn 15 points anyway, bringing the score to a competitive 96-68.
With Sammie still in the box, The Killer Purple became lead jammer, but ran into trouble in the form of Thigh Candy, who provided deft positional blocking. In the next jam, Cruel and veteran BHRG member Felanie Charges skated up to the jammer line, with Cruel emerging as lead as Spleana knocked Felanie to the floor; BHRG blockers created a solid wall, though, limiting Cruel to three points, keeping the score differential steady at 103-75.
Sammie came back for blood with 13 minutes left in the game, absorbing hard hits but bouncing back instantly every time. Thigh Candy kept Party Crasher jammer Liberty under control, helping Sammie rack up 21 points. Felanie and Sammie kept the points coming, bringing the score to 142-76 at the 9:40 mark. Felanie Charges was lead jammer when Cruel Whip knocked her out of bounds and quickly reversed, leading Felanie to cut the track and go to the penalty box. CCDG jammer Cassie Khaos, however, quickly drew a back-blocking foul and went to the box herself. Cassie, Liberty and Killer Purple went on to ably jam, with Cruel keeping up fierce defense against BHRG jammers, for a final score of 163-87. — Faye Stunaway

BOUT RECAP: Socialites Finish 2010 Season in Style
By Jackie Bauer
The Circle City Socialites wrapped up their 2010 season with a big win over the Stateline Derby Divas in Beloit, Wisconsin, on Saturday. For the “School of Hard Knocks” bout on September 11, Stateline was aided by a few players from other teams, including Holly Hotwheel and Tekillya Shot from Iowa and the not-soon-forgotten Sugar N’ Slice from the Quad City Rollers (who earned the Socialites’ vote for MVP Jammer when the two teams played in “Fishnets of Fury” in May). In the end, the Socialites graduated with honors with a score of 191-50, with the Derby Divas held back again and again by the Socialites’ blocking teamwork.
In the first jam, Socialite jammer Robin Sock’Em blocked Diva jammer Sugar N’ Slice all the way to the pack before slicing through herself with the aid of whips from Beattie Sedgwick on both her initial and scoring passes to chalk up an easy four points. In the next jam, Socialite blocker Shock Hop’s quick footwork and hard hits kept Daft Spunk in detention, never letting her out of the pack, helping Socialite jammer Liberty Spykes sail through for 15 points. Socialite jammer Roll-R-Damage played mind games with Diva jammer Floot Loop by giving her the ol’ stare down before the whistle, then engaging in some jammer-on-jammer action. Blocker Ho CrackHer got Floot Loop with a major hip-check, freeing up Roll-R-Damage to score 16 points.
The Derby Divas’ luck finally changed when Socialite jammer Polly Dent got sent to the box on a major track cut. Despite some textbook waterfall blocking by Nova Blaze, Beattie Sedgwick, and Ionic Bondage delivering hit after hit, Diva jammer Sugar N’ Slice took advantage of the power jam situation to deftly rack up the first 10 points of the game for the Derby Divas, making their very devoted crowd go wild.
After that jam, the Socialites took the Divas back to school once more each jam by continually collecting some points, then calling it off to prevent the Diva jammers from scoring. Polly Dent, a strong blocker for the Socialites, got to prove serious jammer skills when she was set up for a power jam on her next turn, racking up 20 points even with one Socialite blocker in the box.
Socialite blocker Faye Stunaway’s legendary hits put Diva jammer Sugar N’ Slice on the floor repeatedly toward the end of the first half. In the last three jams before halftime, Socialite jammers Polly Dent, Robin Sock’Em, and Liberty Spykes all got power jam situations when the Derby Divas kept getting sent to the box. The bare minimum of Diva skaters were left on the track to defend against the Socialites; by halftime, the score was 121-13, Socialites.
The Derby Divas returned from halftime showing true derby spirit – not only did they play harder than ever, they took the time to wave to the fans and dance to the music. Blue-and-white pom-poms shook as the Divas picked up lead jammer status more often and managed four times as many points in the second half as they had in the first. Sugar N’ Slice played every other jam in the second half and earned just over half of the team’s total points as a visiting team member.
The Socialites began to experiment with strategies and nontraditional jammers. Socialite Beattie Sedgwick jammed first, her strong maneuvering capacity getting her through the pack again and again for 15 points as Diva blockers pitched themselves out of bounds trying to hit her. Socialite blockers Trouble Helix, Salacious T, and Faye Stunaway kept up waterfall blocking, shutting down Diva jammer Sugar N’ Slice so Socialite jammer Liberty Spykes could tack on five points.
Socialites Ionic Bondage and Nova Blaze in their first turns of the night as jammer scored five points and 13 points respectively. Vivi Section and Roll-R-Damage teamed up to build a wall against approaching Diva jammer Sugar N’ Slice, but after a hard battle, she got lead and pushed through for four points.
In Ionic Bondage’s next turn as jammer against Sugar N’ Slice, she faced some trouble from Diva blockers Daft Spunk, Wicked Lynx, Madam Jiggy, and Floot Loop, and no points were scored for either team. Diva jammer Rhoda Hell was blocked into a crash by Vivi Section, Ho CrackHer, and Shock Hop, but still managed to earn three points for her team while Socialite jammer Polly Dent earned five. Diva pivot Pixie Pummel and blocker Shan of the Dead stepped up the aggression in the second half, making the Socialite jammers’ work much tougher.
In one exciting jam against Socialite jammer Robin Sock’Em, Diva jammer Daft Spunk got the crowd roaring with some fist pumping as she won lead jammer and five points for her team (and Diva blocker Tekillya Shot sent Socialite blocker Beattie Sedgwick into a nice 360-degree spin). The Socialites bounced back with Bambi Lance and Salacious T waterfall blocking and Ho CrackHer hitting Diva jammer Sugar N’ Splice with great gusto, resulting in Socialites scoring 3-2.
The Socialites managed to have some extra credit fun with moves like a star pass from jammer Robin Sock’Em to Beattie Sedgwick, a whirl-around backwards whip from Ionic Bondage to Roll-R Damage, and a jammer baby – Roll R-Damage reached between her legs to pull jammer Robin Sock’Em through, which made Robin lose her helmet cover but resulted in the moment everyone wanted pictures of.
The Derby Divas finished the night off in the final jam dancing while “The Final Countdown” played to a crescendo and Sugar N’ Slice got a power jam to pad their score by 10 points. Final score: 191-50, Socialites.
Thanks to the Stateline Derby Divas for hosting a great bout, and to all Socialite family and friends for a wonderful 2010 season!

Socialites Win One, Lose One in Hard-Fought Final Bout of the Home Season
By Robin Sock’em
Photos by Damage Control
BOUT 1: CCS BLACK TEAM vs. JACK TOWN ROLLERS
118-74, CCS Black Team. The Circle City Socialites’ last home bout of the second season included a debut by some of the league’s newer derby debutantes, who took on the Jack Town Rollers of Jackson, Mich., in a 40-minute intro bout. CCS jammer Pistol Hips started off smart against Jack Town’s BabeZilla by getting lead and calling it after 4 points to Babe’s 0. Liberty Spykes then took the star and racked up 14 points before calling it in a full 2-minute jam. In her first bout ever, Jackie Bauer took the floor as jammer and continued the shutdown with 4 points to Jack Town’s 0.
The night was good to CCS’s jammers, with several grand slams and power jams due to numerous major penalties landing Jack Town’s jammers in the box. Luci Fear presented a double threat as both jammer and blocker (ultimately earning her CCS’s best jammer award), but saw her fair share of trips to the box too. Vicious Velma slid through the pack hot on CCS jammers’ tails, and Jack Town blocker McGritty kept CCS blockers on their toes, earning her the CCS best blocker award.
Mean Norma Jean was the first Jack Town jammer to get lead status near the end of the first half to score 8 against Jackie Bauer’s 2 before calling it. Vicious Velma followed suit, calling it after 7 points and a devastating blow by CCS’s Polly Dent. CCS had some trouble keeping Hard Rock Candy in the pack and formed a 3-person bridge to chase her down. CCS ended the half with a comfortable lead, 71-28.
Jack Town came out swinging after the break, forcing Liberty Sypkes to call it after taking a big blow. Jackie Bauer had to call it off quick with jammer Shove-Elle hot on her tail, and later, Pistol had to do the same. Mistress Azrael endured a fantastic spill, tumbling over the backs of two fallen skaters while CCS blockers landed big hits, buying time for Azrael to get back on her feet. Luci Fear scored big for Jack Town with 14 points and then proved her endurance in another jam as she was hit first by Screama Donna, then Bona Contention, barely staying inbounds while balancing on one foot. Blockers Screama Donna, Wrecker Becker, Bona Contention, and Polly Dent took advantage of a power jam by containing a “goat” and bringing the pack to a crawl while Liberty Spykes racked up 25 points. CCS killed some time in the last few jams by delaying the jammer whistle, and Jack Town’s Shove-Elle was ejected from the game in the very last jam for having 7 trips to the box. The CCS black team ended up celebrating their first ever bout and victory simultaneously with a 118-74 win.
BOUT 2: CCS GREEN TEAM vs. FOX CITYZ FOXZ
84-73, Fox Cityz Foxz. After a seven-point loss last season to the Fox Cityz Foxz of Appleton, Wisc., the Socialites looked forward to a rematch on their own turf. The Foxz brought a good fight, effectively destroying CCS walls and containing CCS jammers at the back of the pack. CCS jammers received help from big hits by Faye Stunaway, impassible walls by Beattie Sedgwick and Lady Miss Bier, and effective beatings by Shock Hop.
Anya Booty matched the speed of quick Boun C. Ballz to win close jams, and Fly took advantage of a power jam, managing to stay on her feet the entire 2 minutes despite relentless hits by Woman O’War. Anya was able to knock Skeater Beater out of bounds at the start of one jam, making her ineligible to receive lead status. Salacious T set a pick for Anya, who caught up to Skeeter and then strategically called the neck-and-neck jam just in time to score a few points. Roll-R fell victim to sandwiching and solid walls but was still able to tie the low-scoring game at 20-20.
Anya Booty made the first big scoring jam of the night with 15 points after a whip from Megan Enemies and help by Ionic Bondage and Vivi Section, who held Skeeter Beater back. Shock Hop took a rare turn at jamming but was stumped by the Foxz’ impenetrable walls and turned to playing defense with some jammer-on-jammer action. Just before the half, CCS had a 39-20 lead, but the Foxz scored a 9-point jam to narrow the lead to 10 points by the time everyone headed for the locker rooms.
CCS started the second period with a slow pack to help Anya Booty during a power jam, but Lolly Pop Ya returned to the track and scored big. With the score uncomfortably close at 44-43, visibly tired jammers and blockers from both teams were sent to the box like crazy. Jammer-on-jammer races usually led to one or the other calling it off at 0 points, while power jams boosted the score in one team’s favor and then another to keep it neck-and-neck.
Faye Stunaway joined the CCS jammer rotation and set up a power jam situation for Fly. She was joined on the track by a strong pack, but Megan Enemies, Beattie Sedgwick, Lady Miss Bier, and Shock Hop were unsuccessful in their attempt to contain a goat and force the Foxz blockers out of play. Skater pile-ups and point margins of just 3 or 4 points kept the crowd at the edge of their seats.
In a power jam situation, Roll-R-Damage pushed blockers Bambi Lance, Splatty Hearst, and Salacious T out of her way, sending each to the floor and unintentionally creating a no-pack situation which allowed her to whiz right past the stunned Foxz. CCS was back in the lead, 60-54. Later Roll-R played some defense as jammer, slowing opposing jammer Boun C. Ballz to be absorbed again by the pack. Little by little, though, the Foxz inched the score back to 65-69 in their favor. Yaya Der Hey gave CCS the most trouble, earning her the best blocker award, while Boun C. Ballz was named best jammer. The score remained close to end with the Foxz coming out on top, 73-84.
The Socialites travel one last time this year to Beloit, Wisconsin, for a rematch with the Stateline Derby Divas who narrowly lost to CCS last season. Be on the lookout for the 2011 schedule soon!

If fans at the Forum in Fishers on Saturday night were expecting a repeat of last October's match-up between us and the Lafayette Brawlin' Dolls -- a nailbiter with fierce packs and big hits in which the Socialites squeaked out a victory in the very last jam -- they were in for a surprise. CCS dominated this game from the start, building strong defense, playing aggressive offense, and grabbing lead jammer status 17 out of 20 times in the first half.
In one particularly dramatic moment, Socialite jammer Anya Booty showedjust how low she could go when, on turn three, a Lafayette blocker went in for a big hit and flipped over Booty's back, giving Booty lead jammer status (and cheers from the stands). Jammer Roll-R Damage pleased the crowd by gliding on one foot around turn 4 to get lead jammer even while receiving a big hit from Lafayette. When the first half ended, Lafayette had only scored during three jams, trailing CCS 88 to 8.
Lafayette kicked things up in the second half, with their jammer grabbing 4 unanswered points in the first jam while Socialite jammer Robin Sock'em was in the box. Then a controversial call ejected Socialite blocker Faye Stunaway from the bout -- a ref decided that an errant elbow amounted to "gross misconduct." Lafayette went on to rack up 38 points in the second half. Cruel Whip of CCS managed to get two grand slams and 10 points her first time jamming. Beattie Sedgwick jammed just once to grab the most points in a single jam, with an unanswered 13 points.
This marks the third win in a row for the Circle City Socialites, who next take the floor July 3 at home against Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls of Bloomington.

Socialites Triumph 134-41 in Southern Illinois
By Jamburglar, Race City Rebels
The Circle City Socialites racked up a second win in a row on May 22 when they defeated the So Ill Roller Girls in a bout in Southern Illinois. A major second-period comeback by So Ill wasn’t enough to stem the damage, and the Socialites skated off with a 134-41 victory.
The Socialites have been training hard, but were traveling with only two of their regular jammers. Couple that with the fact that So Ill had home track advantage plus a physically forceful team, and the Socialites knew they had their work cut out for them.
First Period
When the first whistle blew, Socialite jammer Roll-R Damage faced off So Ill jammer Tess LaCoil. The Socialites immediately established strong walls up front to hold back Tess while clearing a path for Damage. Beattie Sedgwick and Shock Hop repeatedly pulled LeCoil back into the pack, trapping her there for the entire first jam. Damage racked up 2 grand slams before being sent to the penalty box with 5 seconds remaining.
Several Socialites made their debut as jammers, including Bambi Lance, Liberty Spykes, and Spleana Rupture. They each learned the hard way that opposing blockers enjoy nothing more than hitting a fresh jammer.
Beattie Sedgwick also stepped up to the line as jammer against So Ill’s Arcane Sugar. Despite an increasingly fast pack, Socialite blockers slammed and trapped Arcane. Before the jam ended, Sedgwick scored two grand slams and 14 unanswered points.
With only minutes remaining in the first half, Jammer Atilley The Hun suffered a wardrobe malfunction. Not the scandalous variety—her numbers just slid off her jersey to send her to the penalty box. Socialite jammer Robin Sock’em powered her way through the pack despite fierce opposition from Krush Groove and Ninja Hurtle, who laid her out in turn four. Sock’em quickly recovered and managed to rack up a grand slam before being sent to the penalty box herself. Atilley The Hun’s reentry to the action was short-lived, however, as she lost her jersey numbers once again and left the track for the box.
In a real crowd-pleasing move, Beattie Sedgwick nailed Dawn Gin Master right at the whistle that started the last jam of the period. By the time the clock ran out on first half action, So Ill had only accumulated 9 points due to some good teamwork and rock-solid Socialite walls.
Second Period
At the top of the second half, Ionic Bondage met the floor after a hard-core hit from Krush Groove. Two laps later, Bondage hit the ground again after catching her toe stop and required medical treatment before a quick trip to the local emergency room for what appeared to be a rather seriously sprained left ankle.
As the action resumed, Socialites Beattie Sedgwick, Roxi Razorblade, and Shock Hop formed an almost impenetrable wall, enabling Roll-R Damage to score her fifth grand slam of the night. Dread Pirate Roberta, in an outstanding effort of her own, shoulder-checked a So Ill blocker into her own jammer, leaving a pile of 3 opposing skaters on the floor.
So Ill rallied with their best efforts midway through the second period. Atilley The Hun repeatedly slammed jammer Spleana Rupture until she fell to the floor, which allowed Krush Groove to earn lead jammer status. In what was possibly the most exciting jam of the evening, Bambi Lance took a pounding from Atilley The Hun and a bonafide sheriff block from opposing jammer Krush Groove. Atilley The Hun, along with Cassablockya, also isolated Socialite jammer Nova Blaze, giving So Ill their only grand slam of the bout. So Ill’s rally ended in the next jam with jammer Tess LaCoil in the penalty box as all four Socialite blockers schooled their opponents in ‘getting a goat’. The Socialites trapped a single So Ill blocker in the back of the pack, allowing Roll-R Damage to score unopposed.
The Socialites once again built a rock-solid wall of Beattie Sedgwick, Bona Contention, and Lady Miss Bier and trapped jammer Muchos Bustos for most of the final jam of the night. Just as the So Ill jammer attempted to make a move on the outside, Bona Contention slammed her to the ground. With Muchos Bustos out of commission temporarily, Socialite jammer Shock Hop piled on a few grand slams of her own. So Ill fought hard to the very end, scoring 32 points to the Socialite’s 48 points in the second half.
Bunnie Low-Browski and Screama Donna managed strategically from the bench, sending out untraditional jammers and watching for opportune moments for jammers to collect their fourth minors. Socialites Roll-R Damage and Robin Sock’em jammed for 28 out of 34 jams, racking up over 40 points each. Roll-R-Damage was named Socialite MVP of the evening by So Ill.
Final Score: CCS 134, SIRG 41

Circle City Socialites Prance Across Quad City Roller Girls
VIEW PHOTOS FROM THE BOUT
By Jamburglar, Race City Rebels
The Circle City Socialites of Indianapolis took on the Quad City Rollers of Moline, Ill, at The Forum at Fishers in front of a full house on May 1 for a fight to the death (or at least roller-girl exhaustion) in “Fishnets of Fury.” After a suspenseful first half, with both teams taking turns in the lead, CCS skated away at the end of the night with a decisive victory of 178-89.
Socialite Roll-R-Damage became lead jammer after a false start and sailed past Quad City with a grand slam thanks to solid Socialite defense. During the first period, Socialites Anya Booty, Roll-R Damage, Fly, and Robin Sock'em scored multiple grand slams as jammers thanks to solid defensive work from teammates Splatty Hearst, Lady Miss Bier, Spleana Rupture, Beattie Sedgwick, and Faye Stunaway. Quad City’s Hannibal Nixon and Mexican Monster delivered tremendous hits and established solid defensive walls up front, while jammers JoJo Killabytch, Lady Gotcha, and Sugar N' Slice scored for Quad City. CCS used several opportunities to score offensively, effectively slowing the pack while Quad City jammers waited it out in the penalty box.
Anya Booty took advantage of Lady Gotcha being in the box by scoring two grand slams, then quickly calling the jam before Lady Gotcha could exit the box. CCS was actually able to call off at least six jams while a QCR jammer was in the box that night, a smart strategy to handicap that team’s jammers.
During jam five, Hannibal Nixon established herself up front well, though Faye Stunaway would battle her in the front and back throughout the night, despite falling victim to an apparently sprained ankle in the first period. Sugar N' Slice became lead jammer and quickly scored four points, but just before she attempted to call of the jam she received a major penalty, sending herself to the box and giving Roll-R Damage a chance to earn five points before getting sent to the box herself.
In jam six, though Sugar N' Slice became lead jammer before the pack had reached turn three, a huge whip from Beattie and some good defense allowed Robin to score 12 unanswered points. Sugar N' Slice exacted some revenge two jams later when Fly was sent to the box, getting 14 quick, unanswered points.
The QCR jammers had a difficult time breaking free from the CCS blockers whenever Beattie, LMB, or Splatty set up walls in front despite good hits from Hannibal Nixon and Mexican Monster. With 16 minutes left, Lady Gotcha skated with one foot hanging over the outside line to snag lead jam position, but was forced to call the jam to conserve energy.
As the final jam of the first half got underway, only three blockers were on the track and the penalty box was full. As jammer, Robin Sock'em fell to the ground, knocking opposing jammer JoJo Killabytch past two CCS blockers outside the track, sending JoJo to the box for a major track cut. This gave Robin a chance to score five unanswered points at the close of the half.
Hannibal Nixon gave Lady Gotcha a huge whip on the first pass, sending her out of bounds and in front of two CCS blockers. When Lady Gotcha re-entered the track, she immediately received a major track cut and was sent to the box, giving Fly a chance to score two more grand slams. The Quad City Rollers would continue to roll into foul trouble for the rest of the period, their jammers frequently heading over to the penalty box, and CCS took advantage with slow packs and aggressive offense.
Despite a long, hard-fought bout, everyone had plenty of energy for the final jam of the night, keeping the pack speed fast and throwing plenty of hits. Both teams had fun, and you could tell.
CCS's Dexter said his new coaching strategy, in which the bench coach concentrates almost exclusively on the pack and the assistant coach on the jammers, worked well. This allowed the coaches to give more focused directions during play and more personal instruction during timeouts, improving CCS's ability to change strategy.
Announcers Mr. Macabre and Majo r Rupture kept the mood light and the crowd happy, with a little extra help from DJ Barbed Wire as well as a giant panda—our very own Ho CrackHer donned the large, fuzzy “kung-fu” panda suit, kindly donated by Southland Skate Center, to emphasize the “Fishnets of Fury” theme. Also playing up the theme was the crowd-pleasing half-time act by Korea Taekwondo Academy, whose powerful kicks and board-breaking entertained the approximately 800 people packing the bleachers and chairs.
CCS gave the blocker MVP to Quad City's Mexican Monster and the jammer MVP to Sugar ‘n Slice. Final Score: CCS 178, QCR 89.
Then it was time to par-tay down at Claude & Annie’s, where memorable karaoke performances included Uzi Q’s now-signature “I Touch Myself” to get the party started, followed by Dex’s vocal stylings on “Say It Ain’t So” (with artistic background dancing from Red ‘Stang).
We can’t wait to do it all over again on June 12 – “The Summer of Shove” – when the guys will play in a bout of their own before we take the track that night! Start gathering your best hippie costume now and stay tuned for details!

Cincinnati Bout Recap
VIEW PHOTOS FROM THE BOUT
Walking into the Cincinnati Gardens on March 27, we felt not unlike the little hicks-from-the-sticks basketball team of Milan heading into Hinkle Fieldhouse for the climactic showdown in “Hoosiers.” Ooh! Fancy: Our names on the Jumbotron, seats instead of bleachers, 3,500 spectators in the stands (a record for CRG). And they don’t just know how to put on a good show, they know their derby, as CCS was to learn during the course of the 40-minute bout. We stayed ahead for most of the first 20-minute period – until the CCS jammer went to the box and CRG racked up a 20-point jam, helping them head into halftime with a 24-point deficit. The Socialites never rebounded. Our attention was diverted by CRG’s quick, agile jammers, leaving little time to battle the rock-solid CRG walls that kept CCS jammers languishing in the pack. Even our reliably fast jammers like Fly, Roll-R-Damage, and Anya Booty were mostly helpless behind the CRG walls of three that consistently sprang into place.
The stalwart Celia Graves swung her purple spandex-clad hips to great effect, breaking up walls and sending jammers flying. Wheezy stepped up to the jammer line over and over again, cutting through the pack like butter each time. Givin’ em a run for their money were Spleana Rupture, a new CCS skater who hits like she means it – again and again and again – and Beattie Sedgwick, who floated in front with quick laterals to hold back the CRG jammer until the millisecond she had to let her go or risk a 20-foot violation. The Socialites’ MVP, as awarded by the CRG skaters, was Faye Stunaway. Final score: 112 to 30, Cincinnati.

Muskegon Bout Recap
The upstart Skeetown Skirtz swept past us 142-54 on Saturday, March 13, in Muskegon, Michigan. The new league, founded by former members of Grand Raggidy Roller Girls, has just a couple of bouts under its belt but is off to a roaring start.
CCS was hampered going in thanks to a recent rash of injuries; in the week and a half leading up to Saturday's bout, we lost three of our most experienced skaters. Our gracious Skeetown hostesses allowed us to sub in some last-minute alternates so we pulled together a roster of 14 in time for the first whistle. Skeetown established an early lead, with the CCS jammer going to the penalty box in the second jam and the Michigan girls seizing their chance to rack up a few grand slams. They're a team of jammers – fast and agile – and almost every skater took on that role with ease. But they're equally fierce blockers, going on offense at the blow of nearly every starting whistle long enough to break up our walls, then quickly falling together to form impenetrable walls of their own. Thanks to their fast footwork, decisive hip hits, and ability to quickly drop low to avoid many CCS hits, the Skirtz smoothly juggled offense and defense with ease.
Quarterboy, Rika Wreckless, and Dot Matrix were among the many Skeetown skaters who posed double threats as jammers and blockers. At the end of the bout, announcers handed Best Jammer (Skeetown) to Keisha Mei Ash and Best Blocker (Skeetown) to Tamara Hurtsworse. Anya Booty, skating in just her second bout ever, was named Best Jammer (CCS), while Beattie Sedgwick picked up Best Blocker (CCS). This was the debut bout for CCS skaters Luscious Lisa, Ionic Bondage and Nova Blaze.
We take the rink again in two weeks in a recently added bout in Cincinnati on March 27. Road trip!

Socialites battle Fort Wayne in a nail-biter
We
played our very first bout of the season on February 13th in Fort Wayne,
where we got edged out 52-45 in a hotly contested match-up. In the first
half of a sold-out double-header, we played the Fort Wayne SWAT Team
in a 40-minute bout, followed by a full 60-minute game between the Hammer
City Roller Girls of Ontario, Canada, vs. the Fort Wayne Bomb Squad.
The SWAT girls took the lead right off the bat for a score of 9-2,
but the Socialites quickly gained ground throughout the 20-minute first
period. We built up to around a 25-16 lead just before halftime, but
then the Socialite jammer went to the penalty box and Fort Wayne racked
up a 6-point jam to end the first half down at 25-22.
At the start of the second period, with our jammer still in the box,
Fort Wayne scored a major jam to quickly establish a lead of around
15 points. The score then stayed pretty close for the rest of the bout,
with strong blocking from both teams consistently keeping the jammers
back -- often on the ground -- and the overall score low. A last-minute
rally by the Socialites wasn't quite enough to earn that key final 7
points.
This
was the first bout ever for four Socialites: Anya Booty, Dublin Ur Pain,
Spleana Rupture, and Trouble Helix. Our very gracious hosts also handed
out awards, as decided on by the three announcers, to three of our players:
Roll-R-Damage (best CCS jammer), Robin Sock'em (best CCS pivot), and
Beattie Sedgwick (best CCS blocker).
We already can't wait to take the track again on March 13 in Muskegon,
Michigan. And watch for more details soon on our April 10 home season
opener at the Forum at Fishers!
