special olympics indiana makes a year-round program of sports training and competition available to individuals with intellectual disabilities through a statewide network of volunteer-driven county programs and area management teams. these programs complete the all-important tasks of recruiting new athletes, organizing training programs, raising funds to offset costs and managing volunteers (including recruitment, training, supervision and recognition).
2009 was especially difficult for special olympics indiana and funding shortfalls have forced the organization to cancel events, such as the indiana winter games.
as athletes in a DIY league, the socialites and rebels can sympathize with both the difficulty of funding athletic programs and the important roll that competition can play in a person's life. that is why we will be participating in the 2010 polar plunge and raising money for this great organization.
there are two ways you can support this cause:
1) donate directly to one of our skaters. you can check out our team pages to find list of participating socialites and rebels. don't see your favorite skater? leave a comment and let us know how much you're willing to pay to put them on the ice!
2) join the socialite or rebel team. you can create your own fundraising page, collect donations from your friends and family and then take the plunge with us!
if you have any questions or need help making a donation or creating a fundraising page, just let me know!
