Name: Shankster
#: 3
Position: Where the coach puts me
Skating since: Summer of 2009
How I got started skating: My sister convinced me to go watch a bout and then I signed up before I had a chance to think about it. (This seems to be a pattern in my life.)
Hometown: Carmel as a kid and now Fishers
Trademarks: My incredible posse of 3 Lil' Shanksters
Pre-bout rituals: Lots of self-talk to trust my gear and listening to upbeat music from '80s movie soundtracks
Books: "The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran, best sellers, "The Little Engine That Could"
Movies: Comedy, chick flicks and suspense drama
Best thing about roller derby: Reminds me that I am tough and brave, plus amazing work-out like no other sport. It sets such a great example for my daughters to be brave, confident and fit.
Why I call myself a roller girl: I have earned it, and people look at me sideways like a dog tilting his head in shock and confusion.
Favorite tattoo: Any tattoo on someone else
Guilty pleasures: Chocolate and People Magazine
Drink of choice: Starbucks, tall, non-fat, with whip mocha, VP fountain Coke with rabbit-turd shaped ice, Appletini
Best song to skate to: "Maneater" from the days of Rainbow Roller Rink and friends' basements
Interests off the rink: Anything outside, tennis, sprint triathlons, service projects for kids, and artsy endeavors
Loves: My daughters, family and friends, game nights. I love to try new things, especially outdoor adventures that scare me to death but then I face them and am thrilled to have accomplished them.
Hates: Life is not long enough to try it all. I despise dead animal meat so cooking can be an issue.
